Hi All,

New to SharePoint and having an issue with the host header. In central administration SharePoint gives an option for configuring a host header and they explicitly suggest controlling SharePoint host headers through Central Administration and not IIS so I know I am in the correct place.

I am trying to configure our SharePoint to be accessible internally to our company by typing in I would like the remianing pages to keep the URL path of etc......Each time I make the change and attempt to load I get a page not found return.

Does anyone know how I can achieve what I am attempting here? Thanks in advance!

I am having a similar problem!

The full URL is and want to use
I tried the following without success:

1. Added host header Identity in IIS advavced properties
IP Address Port Host Header value
Default 80 SiteName

2. Added DNS Alias entry (in Forward Lookup Zones)
Name Type Data
Site Name Alias(CNAME) servername.domainname

3. Added to IE7 security intranet zone

Receive IE7 404 error, Have I missed a step in Sharepoint?

Did you set up your Alternate Access Paths?

If not then go to Operations->Alternate Access Mappings in SharePoint Administration.

The Public URL fror the web application is: however the site collection URL is:
http:/servername:2020/sites/sitename

In the Alternate Access Mappings I set up an Internal Url pointing to the Public URL
I still get the IE7 404 Error, finds the web site not the web page.

Should the website collection be created in the root Virtual Directory

BTW Thru the browser i can only open the website with the full http:/servername:2020/sites/sitename URL

Should the website collection be created in the root Virtual Directory(there is only one sharepoint site in the collection)

regards

I believe that you are correct in that it should be created in the root virtual directory.
