Sharepoint Homepage Redirect

We are moving our existing Intranet over to a new server with Sharepoint installed. We are putting the existing intranet into a virtual directory and will keep running that until we get sharepoint configured and set up. The problem is how to forward the users from the sharepoint default.aspx to our virtual directory address without using exclusions. We can't use IIS because of sharepoint. I know we can use a response.redirect statement but I was wondering if anyone knew of any administrative way to do this. Thanks.
