I understand that Sharepoint filenames have a character limitation of 128 characters and together the folder path and filename are limited to 260 characters. My question is does this character limitation include "Spaces"? Thanks.
good question and the answer is yes, spaces count.
try this:
create a text file and change the name to
111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111.txt
that should be 120 characters + the .txt puts you at 124.
upload the file to a Document Library.
Next, add some spaces to the file name and upload the file again.
1111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111.txt
The upload will error out.
Another good example:
Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx
Notice the characters between Shared and Documents.
