The company I work for is beginning to use Sharepoint Services. Myself and several colleagues are unable to use the Datasheet view on a list. Trying to do so produces an error message that says: "The Datasheet view can not be displayed for one or more of the following reasons: -A datasheet component compatible with Sharepoint services is not installed; -Your web browser does not support ActiveX controls; -ActiveX is disabled." I tried enabling ActiveX in the security settings, but it didn't do anything.
I searched the internet forums and tech help a bit, and it was suggested that the problem is that I am using Office Small Business 2003 rather than Professional 2003. This seems to check out with who in the company can and can not access the datasheet view.
The datasheet view is actually fairly important to us, so my questions are as follows:
1) Is not having Office Professional indeed the issue at hand? Is there any way to enable the datasheet view without buying Office Professional 2003?
2) If that is the issue, will purchasing Microsoft Access solve the problem? Or is a full copy of Office Professional 2003 necessary?
3) Many of us already have Small Business 2003. If we need Professional, is there any way beside purchasing a full version of it to obtain it? The only addition of Professional is Access, and the combined purchase of Professional and Small Business is substantial indeed, and is mostly repeated software.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
