Anybody using Veritas Netbackup to backup their sharepoint data? Was wondering if with Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 if it uses the SQL agent instead of the Sharepoint agent. It seems that the sharepoint agent was only for Sharepoint Portal Server 2001. Am I wrong with this assumption?

Hello,

I think that your assumption is right. I have not yet seen any agents for the SPS2003. We are using the SQL agent to backup our system and it is working fine. And also when backing up the GUI (sites) I am using another 3rd party software instead of the built in backup&restore that comes with SPS, since that does not allow you to do item level restores.

Thanks for replying Thomas. Yes I noticed that it doesn't let you do item level restores. What is the third party tool you are using. I dont want to have to restore the whole database each time to restore a single item. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

The third party solution I have evaulated and will be using is a product called DocAve. Unfortunately their pricing might be up the walls, but for our organization that was really not an issue since we are deploying a lot of WSS sites and we need to have a solution that can restore single items.

Regards,
Thomas
