I'm having a problem getting my Sharepoint 2003 server to send email notifications when I add a new user.
I'm using Windows server 2003 with Pop3 and SMTP installed.
I'm able to manually drop email in the /Pickup folder and have the email sent to my work address.
I've created a virtual SMTP server with a domain name. currently my sharepoint is running on an IP address - I'm not using a domain name.
My question is: How do I get Sharepoint to send emails? share point states the following:
"Error: The user or users have been added successfully, but there was an error in sending the e-mail message. The server may not be set up correctly to send e-mail. To verify that e-mail is configured correctly, contact your server administrator. "
I've tried configuring both the default email server in the central admin AND the Virtual email server settings as well (under Virtual server) to the local IP, the loop back of 127.0.0.1 and the server name. I don't think I need a smart mail host to send emails (not interested in replies -only alert notification). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
