Hi,
We're a school with around 400 machines and around 1000 users. We are about to implement a new intranet and have been looking into sharepoint. I have a rough idea of what is needed, but I wondered if I could get some advice:
Ok... so think school (or college).. the idea is that when the user fires open the intranet, they see a kind of dashboard of their own stuff, ie. calendar, email, etc.
The aim is for the user to see their lessons for the day, what's on in the school, their email. Eventually I would like for each department, ie. Art, Geography, etc. to have their own subsite where the pupil can go and find material for homework or assignments or review of the days' work, etc.
Any suggestions / recommendations for this?
I am a bit confused about the My Site, as this is kinda what I want for users to see by default...
A couple of issues I have come across:
- I cannot pre-populate the Mailbox field with a variable for the username. Is it possible?
- Should I be using the Exchange Web Parts or should I just have a Web Page Part that shows the excghange webmail? Are there benfits to using the Exchange Web Parts?
- If we wanted users to see a single calendar, does it make sense that this is done using exchange rather than a calendar targeted to an audience? As it's not the entire calendar we want to target to an audience, it's the individual appointments...

All suggestions and recommendations welcome!

cheers
