We downloaded a free trial version of Microsoft Sharepoint 2 on a Windows 2003 OS test server.(With MSDE).

After we installed it, we can't get to
Am I missing a preparation step in IIS 6? Is there a different default url I should use with Sharepoint 2?

Thanks.

make sure you're running the appropriate .net installations. I'm not exactly sure which ones you need, or what they do but as I recall, I had to do some OS preparation before I could go ahead and install the latest sharpoitn software. Might apply to version 2 as well. Take into account that it's not necessarily adequate to be running only the latest .net version. Don't ask me why, but for some reason you may need to have multiple .net versions installed at the same time...

Is there not a trial for sharepoint 3 available?
3 is SO MUCH BETTER, more feature rich, and easier to configure than version 2.

If your demo'ing it, and trying to rally support from your co-workers, I recommend you go to version 3 if possible. I couldn't get anyone to use it when we were at version 2, but when I moved up to 3 people really got involved and started using it.

Microsoft has good documentation on installing/uprading to sharepoint 3. I am surprised at how easy it was to get it working when I followed the instructions. (don't forget the prep - you might have to get the OS ready before you can install the application software.)
