In Excel, when you share a workbook the minimum you can set the save time for is 5 minutes. This can lead to multiple people trying to add information to the same row without knowing that someone else is editing the same cells.

Is there anyway to reduce this problem of multiple people editing the same cells in a shared workbook? Is there anyway to make Excel save the workbooks every minute instead of every 5 minutes?

If you go to Tools, Share Workbook. Make sure that "Allow changes by more than one user at the same time" is checked. Click the advanced tab, under Update changes you will see the property you want

The whole premise of a shared workbook is to allow people to share it! It would be difficult to legislate against users editing the same cell (programmatically a nightmare I think).

As far as I am aware you cannot save thew workbook more often than every 5 minutes.

My only suggestion as far as the former is concerned is to make sure that "Ask me which changes win" is checked so that when the workbook is saved the user can see whether their change has "won" or not. This option is found in TOOLS->SHARE WORKBOOK->advanced TAB

On the latter, without knowing how large the Excel file is or the number of users using it, saving more often than 5 minutes may cause network nightmares and cause more aggravation than you need!

Not good news, but hope it helps!
