Hello,

I'm administering a MOSS site that will serve about 300 users. We are preparting to launch soon, but I have gotten stuck on a problem with shared web parts. On our home page, we have three shared web parts. I have recently changed the views on the web parts and have repositioned them on our home page. However, I cannot get these changes to propagate to all the users. In my attempt to solve this problem, I have removed the users' ability to modify these web parts, and I have even deleted them and added them again. Any help would be greately appreciated.

It sounds like you may have changed your own personal copy of the view instead of the shared version. This happens if you are logged in with normal (member) rights.

Try making the change while logged in with either site admin or farm admin rights. When you choose to edit the page, a warning banner should appear just below the Site Settings line saying "Version: You are editing the Shared Version of this page".

I was able to solve the problem. Apparently, the home page file, default.aspx, was considered checked out by myself. I had been updating the home page as an administrator, and I would see the message that I was editing the Shared Version. I had to go in to SharePoint Designer 2007 in order to see that the file was "locked" and to remove the lock. There was no other indication except that my changes were only affecting my view and not that of the other users.
