I have a report that requires the use of shared variables, the issue is this, i dont want the sub reports to show on the report but when i suppress or hide the sub report, it resets the shared variable to zero, is there a way that i can pass values through shared variables, without showing the sub reports. All is need is to pass values for totals,

thanks in advance

in addition i've noticed if you deselect the can grow tick box the variable resets as well, is there any way this can be done?

Probably the best you can do is to suppress all the sections within the subreport (but not the subreport itself). In the main report resize the subreport to make it as narrow as possible and remove the borders. Then format the section above the one containing the subreport to "Underlay following sections".

Yes, I learned that hard lesson.

I solved that by creating a separate section for the subreport and make both of them as thin as possible and then "underlay the section"

Hint: the smaller the font, the thinner you can make the subreport

nice one guys thats a step in the right direction for an annoying problem

An additional star for wichitakid of the tip on the Hint for the smaller font. I've always been stummped on how to make the sub report narrower.
