I am using 8.5. I can obtain information from a subreport using a shared variable. I can display and used this shared variable in a formula in the detail section of the main report. If I hide the detail section and allow drilldown then this formula only displays a blank and not the shared variable.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where is the subreport?

I just tested using a subreport in the report header which returned a shared variable value. Even if I Hide the details in the Main report, once I drill in the formula shows the shared value from the subreport.

There are some instances wherein people will shrink a formula and place it in an area that is not suppressed so that the value is always populated, but I think that hidden will still fire it.

synapsevampire,

The subreport is in the Report Header of the main report. If I show the details it displays okay. Once I hide the details the formula no longer displays any information.

What I am ultimately trying to do is use a Parameter in the main report to filter the subreport and use another field in the subreport as part of the selection of records in the main reports. Using this field to hide certain records would also be acceptable. Where I come unstuck is that any formula with the shared variable from the subreport is not availabe to use in the selection or hiding of records in the main report. The issue above I discovered when testing this.
