Can anyone give me a detailed explanation of what a Shared system access button is and what it does as far as the phone extensions are concerned? If I have 4 people in a bullpen answering calls with primary coverage of each other, will this ssa help or not? The problem is that calls are hitting on the prim cover and they cannot xfer due to having only two sa buttons?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Wouldn't recommend going to SSA, which simply put the SA keys for ext 100 on ext 200, for example. Instead, try this:
Say you have a cover button for ext 100.
Program a button next to the cover, as pickup general or "pickup ext 100"
Call comes in on 100 cover,
Press an available SA key,
THEN lift handset
THEN press the pickup 100 button or press the pickup general and then press 100
This gives them the ability to get two of the covered calls on their SA keys, and still be able to get a third on the cover. You may want to put on more SA keys in this case. TipHelp@charter.net

We did have one application of incoming calls coming in via DNIS digits to a "main" extension. There were 6 other extensions with SSA buttons for the main extension (with a total of 5 SA buttons). The customer wanted to see the calls on each phone, and be able to put them on hold and pick them up like a key system. (they also wanted to limit the number of incoming calls to that number, because of the number of agents available to answer them.)

Of course, they also had their own SA buttons for making and placing other calls.

Thanks guys. Here is the issue. Magix with 4 phones in a bullpen. The mail AA answers all incoming calls, then dial 0 and a few other options are sent to 1 of the 4 phones in the bullpen. All the phones have cover for each other and only 2 sa buttons. The problem is the volume of calls coming in is confusing where the are coming from. Also, when the answer on someone cover then it ties up one of their sa buttons until the call is completed. Now I thought if a send all dial 0 and other options to one of the 4 phones and put ssa of that phone on the other 3 it would clear up the problems. Would it? Or would it be better to leave as is and add more sa buttons for transferring etc.

You could set up an adjunct extension with several SA buttons. Put the SSA buttons on each of the bullpen phones. Send the calls to the adjunct extension. Calls ringing on the SSA buttons are the dial 0 and other option calls from the auto attendant, calls in their own individual SA buttons are calls directly to their own extension. Just use enough SA and SSA buttons for the adjunct to receive enough calls at a time.

Tommy is right on about using the SSA of an adjunct. If you are using a Magix, then I assume you are using 4412 phones, so you have plenty of buttons as well. Using call coverage and pickup keys can be a bit confusing for people if the call volume is high.
