I have a couple of nt 4 workstations (sp 5) at a remote site. The one machine has two dot matrix printers attached to it for printing tickets. The second machine was introduced because the main software package that is being used by our company is having problems living with MS outlook 2000. It was decided that it was better to move the package to a clean machine then to reformat the drive and put the site out of commision for a few hours. I have shared the printers from the first machine to the second machine and everything works great except that after a print job is finished, a window pops up on the second machine saying that the print job has completed on the first machine. The window title is "messenger service" and it appears to be emminating from the first machine. I believe that it has something to do with the sharing settings on the first machine. I would like to know how to stop this message from popping up.
fenris
fenris@hotmail.com

I am interested in Mining Software, as well as Genetic Algorithms.

This is an annoying little feature that Windows turns on as default. To turn it off, go to Start, Settings, Printers. Click on File, Server Properties. Open up the Advanced Tab, and deselect the Notify tab.
Voilla! Take that Microsoft!

Since they're both workstations, you can go one step further and disable the Messenger service altogether through Control Panel>Services. Unless you're sending pop-up messages to workstations you don't need it.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
