Okay, I'm a bit vexed with this situation, so here goes:

Office 1 has a Win2k Server running Terminal Services. Office 2 has a people logging in over the internet using Remote Desktop Connection. Office 2 has 4 printers that need to be accessed by everyone while using the TS session. Two of these printers have jetdirect devices (a Phaser 860 and a HPLJ 8100). The other two printers are connected locally via LPT1 to user's computers (an HPLJ1100 and an HPLJ4000). I've managed to get the Phaser 860 and the HPLJ8100 to show up by sharing them local off one machine (xp pro machine called PRNTSRV) and then mapping lpt2 and lpt3 using the 'net use' command, connecting that prntsrv machine to TS, and now people can print to those two printers.

I've tried doing the same thing now to the hplj1100 and the hplj4000, using lpt4 and lpt5, but they won't show up under the TS session.

Any ideas? Y'all haven't let me down yet! :)

You shouldn't need to map the printers that have JetDirects - just map an LPR port to the IP address.

The LJ1000 series don't work too well with Terminal Services, IME. Check HP's list of certified terminal server printer drivers.

Couldn't you get a JetDirect for the LJ4000? If not, mapping LPR ports to the other printers will clear up LPT ports for you to map.

Good Luck! CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk
