I upgraded a computer to Win2k. When I reinstalled the plotter and shared it, it is not showing up as a shared printer when trying to add it to another machine. The machine I am trying to install the share to is running WinXP.
I had the same problem
Try to find that machine with shared printer from Find/Cpmputers and then you can install that printer on machine with Xp
I hope this helps .
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the one machine is not showing a find printer. When I search, I can search for computers, files, etc. but not a printer. On the other one, I clicked find printers and it locked up.
The strange thing is, when I try to add the printer, I can see our printers that are shared on Win98 machines, but I cannot see the printers that are shared on Win2k machines.
I've tried clearing out all printers and reinstalling; changing the share names to an 8 character or less name; making sure the XP firewall is not enabled; checked to see if I can add the printers on a win98.
It seems that this is an XP problem and I think I have completed the steps advised by people who had the same problem. Anyone have any other suggestions.
I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. Which account are you referring to? This is a business network where all machines reside in the same domain. Each user logs into the domain at their machine using a username and password.
Also, I am new to XP and am still trying to get adjusted to the different configuration. I am already getting fed up with XP as it seems like it is a step back from win2k. If I can't figure this out, I am going to get rid of XP and convert the machines to win2k.
Make sure the spooler is running and you do not have the printer queue hiddin when shared withthe $ symbol. Permissions have nothing to do with this either and neither is it a bug.
Still having various printer issues. One of the WinXP laptops can view other comuters on the network and has no problem otherwise. When I try to add a printer to the laptop, I see the computer that is sharing the printer, but when I doulbe click the computer to show the printers, it looks as if their are no printers.
