I have to setup an Outlook Calendar for a consulting office that has no centeral server, no Exchange, peer-peer netwoking. There are only 5 people in the office.

The office wants to have up to date access to the appointment schedule of the main consultant.

Will Outlook Calendar "shared folder" allow this to work, or do I have to buy a server with Exchange?

OR.. Is it better to use the Internet shared calendar service?

I have used this capability but never had to set it up myself.

All comments & suggestions are welcome.

We are in the same boat as you, and from my research, you would have to either (1) buy special software to allow you to share an Outlook calendar, or (2) implement Exchange. We are holding out to implement Exchange in the Fall. If you find another way to share the calendar, I would be interested to know the resolution.

I believe that if you check out Slipstick.com you can find third party utilities that will let you do this.

Having to buy Exchange just for this is rather a big outlay, but Exchange does bring many other benefits. If you are a small company, go for Small Business Server which is cheaper than Windows and Exchange Servers on their own and comes with loads more goodies.

What version of Outlook? Older versions of Outlook can share a calender with anyone with an email. However, the newer versions require 3rd party software.
