Shared Memory Locking and Freezing User Sessions

I have a Unify database sitting on an SCO openserver 5.0.6 server.
Every few days the shared memory segment associated with the database seems to "freeze", ie: anyone trying to connect to the database locks up.
The only way to sort this out is to remove the segment and get users to log back in again.
Has anyone ever come across anything similiar (doesn't have to be using Unify) or knows of a possible cause or solution.
Thanks.

I once wanted to change some settings on a mumps database in order to gain performance. That couldn't be done without raising the shared memory max above the value of mumps´s so called bufferpool. I never knew what problems could occour if shmmax wasn't changed, but perhaps it's what your'e experiencing right now.
Have you tried raising the value?
