XP Pro being used.

Shared Documents folder pre-existed from build. Copied some files in there from another drive.

I can change them, even though the read-only flag is ticked (if I remove it, it comes back).

Yet the wife, another super-user, can only read the files, no update allowed.

Why?

Two-part answer:

. The read-only flag on the folder under XP means little more than that there is a desktop.ini in place for the folder. It does not mean "read-only" as in older versions of Windows:
. Because the folder was created from a previous installation of Windows, there might be some issues with its ownership attributes. This is easily ammended by you:
Note: despite its name, the 'Shared Documents' folder is intended for common storage by users of one machine, and not as a network folder. Again, ammend the access priviliges to change this.
