It appears that a published app we are running creates tempary files to use when it is run. When a second user tries to start the app they get a share violation error listing the tempary files. Is there a way to force these tempary files to be created in a user specific area?

Thank, Paul

You should contact the application developers, they may have an option you can use.

I did and their response was that it was a Citrix problem. They offered to connect to our site and review the problem, but there would be a cost since this was not part of our maintenance aggrement. They are Echoman.com

Sorry, not familiar with them. Good luck, someone else here may be able to help.

I'm getting closer - set the "working directory" - "start in" to a user specific directory and appears to work. It's the simple things that can cause the largest headaches.

Thanks,

Tell the developers it's definitely NOT a Citrix problem - they obviously don't know what Citrix products do (from a development point of view...).

Interesting (slightly out of context) quote from their site; "Echo is the only company to provide a true Windows product with a completely integrated, one database product suite."

If it's a "True Windows product", my question is how come it doesn't work out of the box with Windows 2000 Server running Terminal Services?

Just a thought.

Filemon from may help you track down any other files that the application needs to access, and you could adjust permissions on folders accordingly.

Good luck with your implementation :)

CitrixEngineer - Thanks for your reply and the link. Overall Echo's product is a good one, they just need to invest a little more time to make it more user usable and not pass the responsibility on to their customers who have made a significant investment in the software.

That's a very familiar story - and I agree. Many vendors I have spoken to, including larger ones like ICL, are more than willing to modify their software to be Terminal Server compatible, because so many companies are moving in that direction now.

Most software companies will blame issues with their products on 3rd-Party or User Error if they cannot see an immediate link to their software - understandably.

If you can track down the exact cause of the problem, or a narrow area in which it occurs, they may well be willing to fix it.

Hope this helps

I forwarded this thread to an Echo contact and he questioned - "Also, do we know that "CitrixEngineer" is in fact a certified Citrix Engineer, and is speaking for the company?" - please comment. Thanks Paul

Here's a link, on how to act when programming an application for terminal services:

If Citrixengineer is not going to give out his identity, post your same question in the public citrix forum, and there is a 99% chance, that you will get the same answer from somebody from citrix, as from citrixengineer.:

xs4citrix - Thanks for the link, it appears to be very informative, I'll pass it on to the vendor.
