I installed a new USB Harddrive on our Win2k3 Server acting as a Domaincontroller. I added a primary partition and formatted s: with ntfs standard settings. I created a new folder named bku as well as a share for it (not hidden). I gave full permissions for users, administrators and everyone as well as full security permissions for users, administrators and everyone. Owner of bku is everyone.

bku cannot be accessed over the network or the server using "Entire Network" or using \\server\bku or \\server\s$ .

Any help welcome....

Verify the server service is running. I suspect it is or you'd be having other problems as well. But if the server service isn't running, you won't get to shares.

A "$" as the last character of a share makes the share invisible. You can still get to it by mapping a network drive and type in the UNC to the share - or get rid of the "$".

Can you (as domain admin) access \\server\C$? Have you checked the obvious stuff like DNS etc? Can you ping the server that the share is hosted on by hostname? I presume that windows firewall is disabled as you mention that this is a DC, which means it wouldn't function properly unless you had a load of ports opened to it. Have you tried typing \\127.0.0.1 on the server and check if you can see the bku share?

I missed the part where you created share called "bku" - DUH on my part. Is there a GP in effect that might prohibit the sharing of USB drives or shares? I did the sme thing on a SBS2003 server and it works fine. I'm using a WD external HD via USB.
