Hi,
I am having a problem with sharing an email account. I have followed all the necessary steps for sharing and giving permissions and it works great, except it the owner is out of the office and their pc is off. Any suggestions? The intent of sharing this email account was because of vacations, thus allowing someone in the office to be able to manage all new emails.

I wasn't sure if this would matter, but I forgot to say that the users have an exchange account and POP3 accounts. I set up the Share and the permissions throught the exchange account as advised in the Microsoft Help. Brenda

Could you use IMAP instead of POP3? This way the messages stay on the server & are not downloaded localy. All sent, recieved messages etc. would then be available to both users.

You can do that with POP3 as well. But POP3 isn't recommended if you're using Exchange - you're basically reducing your ROI and increasing TCO.

Grant the "working" user FULL CONTROL on the mailbox of the "vacationing" user. Then add the account of the vacationing user to the Outlook profile of the working user.

Yes you can do the same with POP3 by telling the email client to leave messages on the server, but with IMAP everything is central. Not all Email servers support IMAP though.

Thanks for all the advise. I have already granted permission on the (Vacationing) person's email to share it with the (working) person. I added the (vacation) person's email to the (working) person's profile. And it worked just great, until the (vacationing) person left and shut down their computer. The (working) person can see existing emails, but is not receiving any new emails for the (vacationing) person.

I think that I am going to try setting up rules on their email when they return to the office. Maybe this will solve the problem.

Anyway, that you can setup an alias, so that the email from one is automaically forwarded to the other. I can do this from our corporate email system. This may not be available. I know I keep on about IMAP, but that really is the way to go.
