Knowledgeables,

Is it possible to share an internal or external CDRW with win2kpro and enable another pc using win 2kpro or server to burn using that drive over a network?
I am using easy cd creator 5 basic on all the PCs on a TCPIP LAN.

I was unsure if this can be achieved with the media pools MMC plug-in,Is there a way to do this?

many thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure you can't do this - would need a remote control program to access the desktop of machine concerned I think.

check out a tool called VNC that Darranagl on these forums suggested for me. It allows for remote desktop access.

Just enter VNC in Google and you will get to their web site in Cambridge, England.

HTH..

thanks for the suggestions...
I use VNC quite a lot so I guess that is an option...
but really it is not as convienient, as you have to transfer all the files to the CDRW PC etc...
Oh well, I will keep experimenting with the data pools, see if that has a solution.

Here is an Idea,

You maynot be able to "share a burnable drive" but you can use the PC to make the drive writeable using the DirectCD utility then you can copy things from other machines directly onto that drive via a mapped drive.

I am doing this right now so it does work, the steps I took were:

1) Share out my CDRW
2) Use DirectCD to make the CDR writeable
3) Go to another machine and map that drive
4) Copy files to the CDR drive CJ

I have a cd burner that I share with my roommates. Data can be burned over the lan into the cdburner, I've done it before. Of course, you need to create the cd from the pc that has the burner and not the other way around. The data would then travel over the lan to the burner, however, you would need vnc to do this from the pc or server that doesn't have the burner.

Thanks everyone for the replies,

CJ muchos gracias that was a grteat idea. (i should have thought of that myself ;-))
the direct CD option works fine and all the members of the LAN can now use the burner (so long as they are only writing data and not making music cds...)

Thanks Once again
