Shaping tool not working - CD 9

I'd been able to use the shaping tool with no problem until last week but now it won't work.

I select an object, then I go to shaping----trim but nothing happens when I click on the object to be trimmed.

Is their an "Options" option that might have turned it off??

Have you tried changing the 'source objects' and 'target objects' options in the shaping docker.
