All,

have a question regarding different types of shapes in the visio application.

When i am in the building plan stencil, i want to be able to access some of the shapes that are part of other stencils, i know i can copy and paste them, but is there any way of getting these shapes in other stencils for example, like another floating window??

Thanks:-D

You can open as many stencils as you want at the same time. If you want one or more as floating, just grab their title bar and drag.

Hi,
Building on this, what if I've dragged a stencil and, while it's floating, I click on the "X". How do I get it back? I tried using File|Shapes and revealing it again, but it doesn't bring back the one I closed by clicking on the "X".
Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks,
BlueHorizon

I may not be understanding you correctly, but if you click the "X" on a floating stencil, you will close it. To get it back, just re-open it as you originally did.

To find out where a stencil is stored, right-click on the stencil, select edit (to put stencil into edit mode), then right-click the stencil again and select properties. The General tab shows it's source directory

Hi again,
I tried to right click on the stencil but the Edit Stencil was grayed out. But I did get the answer! Those stencils are stored in Shapes|Visio Extras.
Thanks anyway!

In Visio 2003 all stencils showing in own window. Not just like in Visio 2002 or 2000. When you dragged a stencil, just one, from stencils window, and click on "X" you will close it. To open it again, you need find it's name in File>Shapes and click on it.
If you click on "X" in stensils window you will not close all stencil, they just hide. To show this window again you need select View>Shapes window.
To open stensil in Edit mode in Visio 2003 you need find directory with it's. By default it's C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\1033. When you select one, click on small arrow on Open button and select Original. Left of it's name wil be red asterix.

The best way, to get right answer, is tell a version of Visio in question.
