Shapes in custom stencil no longer match shapes in document stencil

After creating a few drawings with shapes from a custom stencil, I added some shapes to the stencil (I did not make any changes to the other shapes!) and when I open up one of the older drawings to drop a master from the custom stencil, the shapes no longer match the versions on the drawing's document stencil, causing a duplication of the shape and the name to be appended with a number. I have build VBA code into the solution and some of it references the name of the master, causing an obvious problem. Does anyone know if and how I can get the shapes on the document stencil to match the equivilent shape on the custom stencil?
