Can you clarify parameters for 'Legacy', ie. is Win3.1 legacy? System36?
Well lets see I was never exposed to the PC world until i got the internet, so when i had a 486/25 SX with an 85M HDD, 4Meg Rams, onboard VGA(512K) that was the first time i ever used a computer, got it back in '92, my dad bought it home, i messed with every inch of it, had Win3.1 and DOs 5.0 on it, played with Qbasic on that thing for about til '96, finally got the internet thru that, tho it was compuserve, so a bit sheltered, but i was using Qbasic all the way up til that time i got the internet, so you could say I have a pretty good insight of how fast technology changes, when you own one of the slowest machines at the timethen all the sudden you upgrade to something like a K6-2/500, 256M Rams, Geforce DDR , 17" monitor, so on....
When i had my 486, it was gradual things that i did to it, one of the first things i got excited about was going out and paying 79$ to give it a new set of 16M Simms, then came the CDrom, almost got every Demo CD i could find after that, when i had the internet kept tryin to download programs i wanted to try, but having the fustrated message that kept telling me i required Win95, I've already spiced up altered, made Win3.1 look real good, and i couldnt see myself upgrading, well i went out paid 80$ for Win95 Upgrade(bad mistake considering this was the release before Win95A). I tell ya it was the most unstable OS i've seen, I wanted to turn right back around to Win3.1, hehe even kept clicking the 'X' close button the first week or so. but like everything i had, i altered it to my preference. Now i use win98(win2k still has some issues, and linux or NT doesnt support the things i like to do).
but i went from a pretty big jump with my machine within 2 years, now my 486s serves as an armrest with rabbit fur on the top for comfort while i use my mouse, and it's powersupply is powering all my cooling devices.
Karl
kb244@bellsouth.net
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(hehe, yea it was 4.5 too, least i didnt start with COBOL)
