SFX- making stars flash by

Hey out there;
Just thought I'd ask for suggestions before i started into this. Remember the intro to Star Trek; the stars flashing at and by us as we blasted through space? That sense of movement? Well, I'm wondering if i can create that effect in flash?

Along those same lines...

I need to give the impression we're racing down a tunnel and I have a feeling that those two images (stars and tunnels) use the same creation techniques.

Anyone out there with some advice?

Would think you could do it with forced perspective and simply animating lines on the sides and floor (and/or) roof of the tunnel. Japanimation style.
