I would like to setup secure ftp such that an external organisation can upload files onto your server (its sensitive data). Our server is running ssh and ftp. I already know how to setup user access to ftp using the 'server admin 10.1' tool but i don't know how to setup secure ftp.

If i create a user and allow them to login via the shell e.g. "/bin/tcsh" then they can access our server via sftp BUT they can also login via ssh (e.g. using puTTY) and see the servers entire directory listing.

So, how to i allow someone access via sftp but only allow them access to a specific directory via ssh?

Question 2: do you know if there is ssl support for ftp in version 10.1? If so, you do have any links to help on the web

PS I'm not the server admistrator but have an account with admin access.

thank you kindly for any help.

cheers,
dan

ObviousTroll, thanks heaps for the very helpful information. I'll check it out.

Has anyone successfully installed this? Does it simply add another shell to the system that you can setup specific accounts to use?

clancyfan,

What you do is you install and build the shell, then configure the user to use that shell instead of the default (bash).

You set the shell you want a user to use with netinfo manager.
