sftp - secure ftp problem

I have installed OpenSSH on 2 sun machines and the ssh connection works file between them however when I try
to do an sftp I get the following error :

Connection to 204.56.96.206 closed by remote host.
Connection closed

Can anyone point me what the possible cause of this error
could be.
