SFP modules not seeing network\Giga Switch

Having an issue with my two 3com SS3 3824 gig switches. Not super familiar with fibre but if you connect two gig switches via the fibre ports do you have to cross like other devices? Also trying to run the main line from a Nortel Bay Stack switch which the entire network is on. 3com AutoNegotiates and Nortel does not. And I cannot figure out how do do either. Both console will not let me. HELP!!
