Hello, is it possible to deliver multiple Domain Names to a client, which has send a DHCP-Request? The purpose would be to register all clients e.g. in the domain comany.com as well as in the domain subdomain.company.com automaticlly. From my understanding this is not supported neither by the client nor by the server.

Thanks, Stefan

A DHCP server will send a single Domain Name. You could set up a DHCP server in the domain Company.com and another DHCP server in the Domain Subdomain.company.com.

registration will occur for the domain the client belongs to. It is however in your abilities to set multiple DNS suffixes to eliminate the need to use FQDN to access resources from other domains. Forwarding or zone replication is going to be the best route to take as far as name resolution goes though. Main reason for this is so that something like a DC does not register SRV records in zones (meaning the domain name) it is not truly responsible for...as a short and sweet answer. Only other route would be static records in the other zones...but you will still be required to use FQDN to access the resources in other domains if additional DNS suffixes are not specified....that is of course unless WINS is used in your environment as well as DNS.

almost got a paragraph there :)

oh yea forgot to answer your question.....DHCP protocol itself has a limitation of being able to do this. It is possible through a script though...I know of a couple ways...1 of which is hitting and altering the registry directly...the other is VBScript just altering the suffix search list...let me know if these interest you
