The article confuses what the author likes with what succeedes economically. China is currently squeezing the flow of information on political matters, and remains the fastest-growing large economy. Britain industrialised in 1760-1830, before it reformed Parliament and before it repealed a host of restrictions on Roman Catholics. Both in Britain and the USA, Puritans with a narrow view of the world were the main promotors of the new industry.
