After a fair amount of beating my head against the computer, I have not be able to get the Flash javascript method SetVariable to work with Netscape 7. Of course, it works just fine in IE 6.

I did figure out that if you remove the OBJECT tag entirely and use only an EMBED tag, then it will work with NS7--SetVariable will pass a variable from the html file to the Flash movie. However if you do that, IE 5.5 and above won't work with SetVariable.

Has anyone else run into this and found a solution?

IE uses the object tag, so obviously if you take it out...

As for Netscape 7, don't want to install another Netscape browser after I got rid of 4.7, so can't really help you...

Are you sure you have swLiveConnect="true" set in the embed tag? Regards,

Yeah, I set swLiveConnect="true". I also made sure I had id= and name= in the right places and all the other things Macromedia specifies in their knowledgebase articles.

I would love to forget about Netscrap, but I'm releasing a training CD for sale, and it's kind of tacky to say NS isn't supported. I may just put the CD out like that anyway.

Clark, I'm having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?

Thanks,
Marc

Nah, I gave up. I'm marketing the product and stating that IE 5.5 or later is a system requirement. Netscape is only 5% of browser users anyway.

There is one obvious solution which I decided wasn't worth the complication and effort. Do a browser detect and then launch one page if it's IE and a different one if it's NS.
