I have a Sony Vaio with a wireless network card that I am using to record test data. The computer is on a moving carriage, and I control the carriage from a stationary position that is within about 50 ft of the carriage at all times. I am trying to come up with a configuration that will let me control that computer from my remote station (primarily so I can start and stop the acquisition software).

It seems the easiest option is to get a wireless router and a second computer. That would allow me to control the primary computer through a network.

Instead of getting a whole second computer, I am wondering if there is a way to hook up just a second monitor and mouse using a wireless hub. If that is possible, is it more efficient in any sense (cost, setup, etc.)?

I would appreciate any thoughts on this setup. - Jeff

It looks like you would need a wireless KVM. It is pricey at $695, and I would expect wireless video quality to be not so great. ATEN also makes one, but it costs more.

You could probably come up with a second PC and wireless router for less. Real VNC is freeware that will let you control the other PC remotely.
