setup seperate network inside home highspeed network

I was looking for advise on the best way to setup seperate network on home highspeed network. I want to be able to simulate hacking into another network's server for test and to gsin experience for security position at work. I have a Linux laptop acting as firewall going into switch. I puchased linksys 4 port router/switch hoping that I could use it to create the 2nd test network.
