Hi there

I have an old computer that my children use and I am having problems setting it up after I formatted the hard drives.

There are two small hard drives - Lightning 540(500mb) and Maxtor MXT540SL SCSI(500mb) and the CD ROM is a quad speed SCSI drive manufactured for IBM model No CR-504-B.

The BIOS (American Megatrends Amibios Setup version 2.4) initially brings up the names of the hard drives and the CD ROM but in the BIOS setup the drives are not found.

Also when I use a win98 setup disk the cd rom drivers are not found.

I need to set up the hard drives properly and install cd rom drivers to enable me to reinstall win98se.

Can anyone help me???

Thanks

If you require any further specs. etc please contact me.

if that is a scsi drive meaning not connected to the motherboard you will need to get the drivers for it and install them on the hard drive first which causes problems obviously running cd setup the only possible way is installing an ide cdrom they are so cheap now anyways under 50.00 and in your bios if you have the ability to autodetect drives use that if not set it to auto in the screen bios, but solving the bootdisk issue you will have to create an entirely new bootdisk with the scsi drivers loading dynamically in that disk in other words buy an ide cd it will save you a huge hassle!!

You need the scsi controller drivers into the boot floppy first to get access to the drives.
Drives won't be seen in the CMOS.
