Hi,

during the setup of redhat 7.3, I've got the following problem: "The file /mount/source/.... cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a bad package, or bad media. Press <return > to try again."

This error occurs when I insert the second CD. The setup was fine for the first CD. I have changed the cd-rom drive and relaunch the installation from the begining but in vain. I have put the Cd on another computer and try to copy the file: successful!! I have dowloaded and burned the ISO images according to redhat website. What am I doing wrong??
Is it possible that the downloaed ISO are bad???

P.S: I'm new to linux

Most likely a bad burn or a corrupted download. The files will be accessible singly, but the setup will have problems with them. Also possible culprit may be burn speed. I have heard a thousand times that burn speed doesn't affect a read, but I have always stuck to 4x burns for os disks for several years now. Too many problems with disks burned at 8x or 12x. But I only do this for the OS disks, nothing else. Maybe superstition, dunno. But it has worked for me every since. I have burned in the past disks at both speeds, only to have the faster burns not work during installations. Takes forever to burn, but how many sets of OS disks do you make?

After the downloads I've compared the ISO image space (in bytes) found on the FTP server and locally. It was exactly the same. There was a small utility called mdsum or something like that that you could run to ensure that your ISO image has properly been downloaded but I was unable to understand how it works.

On the other hand, I've burned all the 3 CDs @ 24x. Like I'm telling you, the first CD went fine. The first Cd rom drive found on the pc was creative. The setup stopped at about half the way for the first CD. So I change the CD rom drive with another one. Then 2 times I got the same problem with the second Cd Drive.

try burning number 2 disk at 4x see if it goes through it. Like I said, I had problems with faster burns. They would sort of work, not fail entirely, nor work entirely, just kind of screw up.

I had a problem just like that not too long ago. What burning software are you using?

I was using eroaster. I reburnt the images using Nero and the install went okay.

Thanks guys for your replies, I thought that post was dead..

Meanwhile
I have downloaded manually the file 'openjade-1.3.1-4.i386.rpm' from a FTP mirror site and I've burned the files to the Redhat CD#2, overwriting the old file (which was exactly the same bytes). I have then launch the redhat setup in workstation mode rather than 'Customized' as I was doing before (May be the setup wouldn't ask for the erratic file). This time after the first CD was completed, I insert the second CD and I get the following message : Please insert CD#2. Although I insert the correct CD it keeps asking for the CD#2. I think the setup cannot read mutisession CDs. I then inserted my old CD#2 and I got the same error as before.

I have written the CD #2 @ 8x. Same problem again. I could not get lower speeds with my burner. Am using Nero 5.5.6.3

Thanks!

No, it will not read multi-session during the install process. Afterwards sure, but not during. Did you re-download disk 2 prior to burning at 8x?

No for your question...

I've got a relatively low connection. I want to be sure that my ISO file is corrupted before launching another download..

Follow this link, I posted this about a week ago. It deals with the problem of the installation asking for a disc even though you have the correct one loaded .

wolf, he added to the disk so it will not execute during install. Noip, tell me where you live, alternatively, email me your address and I will see if I can't ship you a copy since I would assume it is corrupted if you burned it low already.
