I'm new to the Penguin set so this may be elementry - My printer was configured using
Yast. When I try to print text doc to it (from the doc's path), using "lpr -Plp firstdoc", it
gives no error mssg, simply smiles and returns to the command line. I checked with
"LPC Status". Says "enabled, online, ..., no daemon". I checked the "lpd" daemon - it
is running. I tried "Start". The BJ-200(ex) has driver and can be used with ghostscript.
In "/etc/printcap", there are three queues: ascii, raw, and lp. Can't print with any. "echo hello > /dev/lp0" doesn't cause any lights or bells. No job listed in printer window. Printer is attached to LPT1 port (Gateway2000 486 66mhz - SuSE Linux 6.4 48mb) ????? -

Try removing the existing printer using "yast", and then installing RedHat's "printtool" package. Use printtool to setup the printer. I've used printtool to successfully set up a Canon BJC-210 printer without any problems.
