Could anyone help, I just switched to MAC OSX and confused about seting up MySQL on it. particularly I dont understand installation instruction provided by mysql.com about root user/mysql/bin etc. there is no such root on my machine, mysql installed itself under Library/MySQL . cant find user/lib/ or whatever. theres no root like that.
Thaks in advance.

While Marc Liyanage's packages are nice, you may also check out a good package at
This is the link that is listed for the MySQL distribution on
I'm using Server Logistic's packages right now. I used Marc's packages on another Mac. Not much difference - - Server Logistics seems to have a more staightforward installer.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

Hi Caliper

I have just installed MySQL and PHP on my macOSX.

I used Marc's packages without error.

There is a root on your machine, you cannot see it if you look in System Pref\ Accounts, you have to go into Applications\Utilities\NetInfo Manager... there, if you click on users (at the bottom of the list) you will find all the accounts that are actually on your system.

You cannot see the MySQL installation dir because it is hidden ina unix hidden folder. usr/local/mysql/

to get to the MySQL monitor, open a terminal window (in apps\ utils) and type /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql

Good Luck
