Afetr rebooting Win98, I have a user that receives a Setup Initailization Error that states "Setup requires _SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL (located in _SETUP.LIB) in order to operate properly. Please ensure these files are located with SETUP.EXE". The user states that this error occurred after an installation of Internet Explorer 5.5. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 5.5, but still get the error. I cannot tell from the error message what is trying to install. One solution I have found was to delete all files/folders within the Windows/Temp folder. That did not help. Should I be looking in the registry within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for some kind of setup.exe or install.exe file?? And then delete that key??

P.S. I have already looked within MSCONFIG in the Startup section.

I also received this problem before. What I found was that my motherboard did not support the Internet Explorer 5.5 with IE4 or IE5 updates from microsoft. So I uninstalled all IE4 and IE5 files using windows explorer. This solved my problem. I installed Internet Explorer 5.0 only.

IE 5.5 seems to work fine though. I just say ok to the error message and all is ok with IE 5.5.

Try this:

Run SYSEDIT.

Select the Autoexec.bat window. Add the line "SET TEMP=C:\XTEMP". (Note: If there is already a line that begins with SET TEMP=, replace it with the above.)

Now Exit and Save your changes.

Open Windows Explorer.

Create a new folder on your C:\drive named "XTEMP"

Close all windows and restart the computer.

Good Luck.
