alright this is what i have. I just recieved a cd in the mail today with another companies web stuff on it. All this company did was copy the Root of the folder and burn it to disk. Now the company created their pages with frontpage (which i know nothing about). My task is to put there pages on a new server. This server is running windows 2k adv. All that it has installed is IIS, IIS lock down and frontpage 2000.
Now then my task is to do this: copy over all the files to the server. Which i did, i just copied them stright over to the directory. then i tested the page just to make sure that it would come up with IE. Which it did.

But now i have to add the last part to make this site work. The last part is frontpage security user accounts. Now then when i open up my IIS manager and click on the site, and selected open with front page the page loads fine inside of the program. no problems. but now when i go to add users in the tools ->security the security option is grayed out. so i can't add my users.. can someone please tell me how to go about doing a new install of a website that used frontpage as the editor.

thanks

Make sure the FP extensions are installed. You can do this via IIS. Right click on the web in IIS & choose All Task - verify FP extensions. This will take you to an internet browser. Enter your admin user name & password. After you have chosen detect & repair, hit Administration. Now you can hit Manage Roles.

If you wish to do this via FP, make sure you sign on to the server: & then you can access the server roles there.

thanks for the reply.
but when i go into my IIS manager, and select my web site, then right click and go to all tasks I get the options of:
Permissions Wiz, Open with FrontPgae, Check Server Extensions, Convert Server ext Web to Directory, Recal Web, and Delete Server Ext Web.

I'm thinking what you were asking my to try was the Check Server Ext option. when i do that i get a form that pops up that says check web it runs through 15 items and then does nothing else.

I have also tried right clicking on the default web site and going to all tasks i get the same options. I went into my installed IIS items and made sure that i installed everything as well. am i missing something?

thanks.

I see you have Windows 2K - I was assuming you had IIS6 instead of 5.0.

Did you also try to open your web via FrontPage? I mean, open up your Frontpage program. Go to File - Open web - enter - and then you should be able to add your FP accounts.

Thank you for all the help! I found out if i uninstall IIS and reinstalled it my security came back.. the lockdown tool did something strange. so i'm reinstalling windows, and see if it works.

You said that you were Running IIS 6. Is there a way that i can upgrade my IIS 5 to 6? is there a download? or do i have to be running Windows 2003 server?
