I am an experienced linux user - mostly Slackware and Redhat. I want to setup an email server so that I can send and retrieve email on my RH linux box. I have an IP address and a DNS name. I basically want to be able to send email as any given user:

username@mydomainname.net

I also of course want people to be able to send me email at that address. Does anyone know of a good tutorial for setting this sort of thing up or can recommend any good software to use (e.g. sendmail, qmail)?

Thanks,

Set up your DNS records for your domain on an external DNS server. You'll need a host record for your mail server and an MX record for the domain.

After you have DNS working, pick an email server that you like; either of the ones mentioned above will work; I would recommend Postfix, but use the one you are most comfortable with.

Thanks, I think that was all I needed to know. I haven't messed with DNS too much b/c I just got a domain name. I read all about DNS records so I understand how it works. My network is on a subnet so I have to see if I can get SMTP:25 packets forward to my router/firewall and then forward the packets again to my mail server.
