I have a HP Proliant DL 380 and I am trying to install Windows 2000 Server on it.

There are four physical disks connected to the Server - all are Ultra 320 SCSI. They all appear to be seated correctly and firmly - all four have green LED's next to them.

When I try to install Windows 2000 Server, I get the following error message:

'Setup did not find any hard disks installed on your computer'

How can I resolve so I can install Windows 2K Server?

Thanks...

press f6 when asked to provide drivers for the scsi controller

I downloaded the Ultra 320 SCSI drivers for Windows 2000 from the IBM site, extracted them onto a floppy, pressed F6 to install the SCSI drivers - selected the correct SCSI drive type - it looked like it was installing the drivers, then it prompted me to press 'Enter' to run Windows 2000 setup - I then got the original error message

Any ideas?

Thanks..

Did you setup the drives in the SCSI management program? Are you doing RAID 5 with these drives or perhaps two mirrored sets?

The drives may need to be formatted.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I havent set anything up as of yet - where can I find the SCSI Mgt program?

I have four physical disks - if I use RAID5 do I only get to use two of the disks - data being spread across the others??

Thanks

Watch as your system boots up and you should see a prompt for presing something like Ctrl+A to enter SCSI setup.

With RAID 5 you loose one disk to parity, so with your 4 disks you would have a drive size equal to 3 disks.

I hope you find this post helpful.

HP Pro-Liant should have come with a Pro-Liant Essentials Pack with a Smart Start CD. Try using the O/S installation assistant from there. It should prep your server to be ready for an installation.

Sound like either your RAID is not set up correctly or the disks are not formatted.
