Just trying to install FrontPage 2003 and I'm getting this error when I run setup.exe. I try running the MSI file itself but after entering the key code, install just aborts. Is my OS hosed? By the way, auto-run not working either and it is not disabled on my cd-rom drive.

Thanks for any help!

James

Launch the application this way (assuming Drive Letter D is your CD):

D:\Setup\Setup.exe /no_bsln_check

Member linney is correct that any script blocking could well be the issue. But note: if Front Page is part of the Office Suite, the bootstrap code is run as one of the first things with a full install starting with Disk 1.

My comment above is the attempt to install only the Front Page program from the Suite package. Directly addressing the .msi for Front Page skips the .NET bootstrap step and hence the complaint from Windows Installer.

Anyone, that was my thinking and the basis for the suggestion above.

Thanks for the replies. I will need to try all recommendations in a few days when I'm back.

Just to clarify, I was attempting to install from a standalone FrontPage 2003 CD.

Stand alone as a retail product, or stand alone as a CD as part of a Suite?

It's the retail version of FrontPage 2003. Not part of Office suite

This is an XP Pro system by the way so is there anything to watch out for if SP2 has already been installed?

Not that I am aware of.
There are some odd DCOM issues, but my gut instinct is that this is not the issue. What I am concerned about is a registration or file issue with Windows Installer.

Try:
net stop msiserver /y
msiexec /unregserver
msiexec /regserver
net start msiserver

Or if desperate:

But you might consider that any SP2 support issue is a free service call to Microsoft: thread779-923312

I should have mentioned this earlier but, I attempted to backup the System State via the Windows Backup tool and I got a catastrophic error. Decided to do this prior to registering the Windows installer. Rebuild?
