Setup a test email account

These pass two days we've had problems receiving outside emails. We're using Netware 5.1, Groupwise 6 and an Omnigate 5. Is there a way I can send a test email to the postoffice or gateway so I can make sure we're receiving in/outside emails? I'm just trying to be proactive here. Making sure we know there's a problem before our users tell us about it.
 
What I normally do is go to my Hotmail account and send it to my work address. 9 times out of 10, when we have email issues, the GWIA is normally down and needs to be reloaded.

At my own job. They had it setup with a Groupwise id. You click on the id and if it didn't delivery a return message. You were not receiving internet mail. Of course, I can't call them. It's a law firm.
