Hi,

I want to setup a VPN Server to enable mobile clients to connect to the Exchange server via Outlook. The usage of OWA is not required by me and that i already have in place working properly.

I have Exchange server 5.5 running on NT Server, and a VPN Server configured on Windows 2000 Server machine.

Now what i have to do next so that the mobile client after setting up the VPN connectivity gets connected to Exchange server using Outlook 2000.

Do i need to configure anything in the VPN Server so that it knows to connect to Exchange server whenever a VPN connectivity is estabilished by client?

Please guide.

Regards
Yunus

You need to enable IP routing on your VPN server and make sure the clients can resolve Exchange server name after the VPN connection is established. Name resolution is absloutely critical so make sure it works properly.

I have the following doubts:

1) Do i need to have 2 NIC on the VPN Server.
2) From the VPN server i can ping to the Exchange server when i am in office network. So will the same thing happen to the mobile client outside the network after estabilishing VPN connectivity.

Regards
Yunus

You must imagine the concept of VPN being a virtual extension to your office, just like an extra cable connecting you to your LAN. If you think in these terms the answers are clear.
1. You need only one NIC (would you install two NICs to ping two computers?)
2. If VPN server has been configured properly yes, you should be able to ping any host on your local network (just as if you were there, connected to your switch)

Thanks,

i will check up with user and then post a reply
