Hi,

I'm trying to hook up a wireless router into my domain. The wireless router..

In my network dhcp is handled by the DC, as is DNS.. All workstations use a dynamic IP.

I'm having trouble hitting the nail on the head with the router settings (Basic Linksys wireless router).. Should the router have it's IP assigned Dynamically? Or use a static IP? Should the router use DHCP to assign IP's? Or can the DC still server that function? And lastly should the IP of the workstations that connect using the router be of the same subnet as the DC?

Any tips would be greatly welcome..

Thanks
David

If you are attempting to connect wireless users to your network then you would be better using an access point not router. If you let it do DHCP you could run into ip conflicts unless you set your server to one range and the router to another, ie (server 192.168.0.1-50 & router 192.168.0.51-100). If you use the router you would be better making its IP static.

I use an access point at all my locations.

We use AP's here as well, and we selected a range of IP's out of our DHCP scope to use on the AP's. This allows us to know it's a wireless connection based on the IP address. We had to block out that portion of the scope on our DHCP server to prevent conflicts, but it all works fine.

Good luck,
