Greetings all,

I'm having a meltdown here. I was trying to help a friend set up her wireless router tonite. I've done this before for a friend who has XP and I had it up and running in about 45 minutes. This is different story...

So she has Windows 2000 and a Linksys Router. I have the router connected properly and all. Computer to Port 1 on router, modem to internet port on back of router. I put the CD in and tried to walk thru the setup and I cannot get online thru the router. I called tech support and they walked me thru firmware upgrade, asigning the SSID to the router, doing a release and renew of IP address, etc and STILL nothing is working.

On the Win2K side, I added File and Print Sharing and Client for Microsoft Networks (which wasn't added before). I then even tried to join the PC to the same workgroup name that was given to the router and STILL no dice.

What am I missing here? Does ANYONE have any other ideas? I know this has to work because at one time, I had a Linksys router wireless network w/ Win2K so I know it's possible!

Thanks in advance,
Don

My guess is that the modem has some routing features, including DHCP.

Double NAT by setting the Linksys to use 10.0.0.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 as its own LAN side IP. The WAN side can use automatic or DHCP-obtained addresses.

Note: SSID and other aspects of the router setup are for the wireless only side of the router interface.

Note: #2: I have never used a CD with the Linksys. Set a static IP address on the computer of 192.168.1.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1 and then use Internet Explorer to access the router setup pages:

http:\\192.168.1.1\

Remember when you change the IP of the router (discussed above) your static IP of 192.168.1.2 at the computer will not longer access the router.

You need to change to 10.0.0.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 10.0.0.1 to access the new setup of the router.
