Alright here’s a newbie question for ya:

We are running ArcServe 2000 with the tape library option. What I want to know is what type of media pools and scheduling should I set up to have biweekly full backups and daily incrementals?

We want the full backups for 90 days and the incrementals for 7 days. We are having a horrible time trying to setup the schedule so that we can get biweekly full backups and daily incrementals.

Any suggestions or best practices would be a great help.

Thanks
Pat

Here is one way to do it:

Set up two jobs, one to do the Bi-weekly full backups and one to do the incremental jobs.

For the Bi-Weekly Fulls, create a media pool and set the retention to 90 days. Set up the job as a rotation job, and on the schedule tab set the days that you want the full backup to run and the rest of the days set to off. Then go into the Exceptions tab at the bottom of the screen and choose the bi-week that you don't want a full backup and set it to off.

For the Incremental job, you will want to setup a custom schedule instead of a rotation scheme (A rotation scheme won't let you not have a full backup during the week when you are doing incremental backups). Use the Device configuration and setup a series of slots to dedicate for the incremental tapes (A Custom schedule job will not update a media pool, so you will have to track manually the rotation of your incremental tapes). Choose the repeat method and choose the days of the week that you want the incremental backup to run. Then choose incremental from the backup method. When you save the job you can set the start date and start time for the job.

Hope this works for you.
